Reducing Hunger Together: One Plate at a Time!

Have you ever seen a child’s eyes light up at the sight of a delicious meal? For us, it is a daily occurence to come home to a hot piping hygienic keal. But for many, it is a far-fetched dream. Thousands of people – Adults, women and even children die of hunger every day. Infants are malnourished, maternal health gets hampered. At Ummeed Roshni Ki, that’s what we work towards. We fight hunger in our communities, ensuring everyone has enough healthy food to eat.

Hunger: A Big Problem in Our Country.
  • In 2023, India ranked 111th out of 125 countries in the GHI report.
  • India’s child wasting rate was 18.7%, child stunting rate was 35.5%, undernourishment rate was 16.6%, and under-five mortality rate was 3.1%.

Between 2019 and 2021, around 307 million Indians experienced severe food insecurity, and 224 million were affected by chronic hunger.

REDUCING HUNGER..

Many families struggle to put food on the table. Food insecurity isn’t just about hunger pangs; it’s a silent thief that steals potential and opportunity; it can lead to health problems, especially for children. It stunts the growth and development of children, hindering their ability to learn and thrive. Adults facing hunger often struggle with fatigue and decreased productivity, impacting their ability to earn a living and support their families. This creates a cycle of poverty and despair, leaving individuals trapped in a seemingly unbreakable web.

How do we reduce Hunger?

We work on several things to make sure people have enough food:

  • Food Distribution: We organize events where we give out free meals and groceries to those in need. These include fresh vegetables, lentils, rice, and other healthy options.
  • Helping Food Banks: We support local food banks by donating food and helping them distribute it to families.
  • Community Gardens: We help people grow their own food in community gardens. This gives them fresh produce and teaches them how to grow their own vegetables.
  • Learning About Food: We hold workshops to teach people about healthy eating habits and how to make the most of the food they have. This helps families get the most nutrition out of their meals.
How a Well-Fed Community Benefits Everyone?

When people have enough to eat, good things happen:

  • Better Health: Healthy food keeps us strong and fights off illnesses. Children can grow and learn, and adults can work hard to support their families.
  • Empowered People: Learning about food helps families make good choices about what to eat. This gives them a sense of control over their health and well-being.
  • Stronger Communities: Working together to fight hunger brings people closer. We help each other and create a more supportive environment for everyone.cheap replica watches
